Alice Eva-Mae Smith Carroll was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 9, 1923 to the late Patrick Henry Smith and Emma Bridgeford Smith. She transcended to her eternal home on December 28, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones.
Alice attended the following schools in Brooklyn: PS 68, Junior 136 and Vocational High School. Upon graduation, she worked in the New York City Hospitals prior to relocating to North Carolina in the late 1960s. She was subsequently employed at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Johnston Mental Health and Respite Care providing care to babies and the elderly. She found her greatest joy in traveling the world with her dear sister and best friend, Pearlina.
She is preceded in death by: her husbands James Dry, Sr and Perry Carroll; her parents, Patrick and Emma Smith and her children, Bernice Williams and Lottie Polite.
Alice is survived by: her grandchildren, David Bethea, Carol Dry, Shawna Polite and Henry Grajales; great grandchildren, Earl and wife, Jasmine, Gary, Tyra, and Omarii; great great grandchildren, Taciyah, Tatiyonna, Samuel III, Tia, Tezmyne and Trayvon, Jr (TK); her sister, Pearlina Jackson; her niece, Patricia Jackson; two nephews, Ronald Jackson and Edward and wife, Marla Jackson; two very special friends, Chuck and Tony; and a host of relatives and friends.
