Barbara Ann Mckinnie

Mrs. Barbara Ann McKinnie, 59, of Selma, NC died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at her home.

Barbara Ann Lyons McKinnie was granted her angel wings on June 22, 2014. Her final days were spent doing what she loved: surrounded by countless newborns and school-aged children that she reassured in a gentle voice.

Barbara was born on February 18, 1955 to the late Ethel Wiggins Hopkins and the late Waylon White. She was reared by her grandmother, the late Lila Sims Lyons.

During her early years, Barbara made her Christian commitment to St. John AME, Selma, NC and later joined Word of God Christian Academy, Raleigh, NC. She attended Elementary School in Durham, NC and later attended Richard B. Harrison, Selma, NC. Barbara was a graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School Class of 1973 and continued her education at North Carolina Central University where she received a BA in Business Administration. Her career as a computer programmer lead her to move to Chicago, IL. and Atlanta, GA. Several years later, Barbara decided to return to Selma, NC pursing her passion in Early Childhood Development, becoming founder and owner of Lots of Loving "5 Star" Daycare.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Lila Sims Lyons, Selma, NC, her mother Ethel Wiggins Hopkins, Newark, NJ, her father Waylon White, Clayton, NC, her husband Lyndon McKinnie, Selma, NC. She leaves to cherish her love and memories, her stepfather Jasper Hopkins, Newark, NJ, four aunts Evelyn Lyons Lee, Selma, NC, Louvenia Daniels, Zebulon, NC, Therlene O'Neal, Selma, NC, Mercedes Adams, Clayton, NC. Two uncles Willie Earl Lyons, Durham, NC, Edward Eugene White, Clayton, NC. A special family friend and Godfather Nathan Phipps, Newark, NJ. A host of cousins, and friends.
