Barbara Jean Nichols was born in Smithfield North Carolina on September 21, 1939 from the union of Percy Nichols and Georgianna Nichols. Barbara Jean was one of one the only child no siblings, however she grew up with cousin Charles “Nicky” Nichols who she considered her brother.
Barbara Jean, nicknamed “Buggy” graduated from Johnston County Training School in 1957 and shortly thereafter migrated to the Northeast to pursue employment opportunities.
After working a variety of jobs in the Philadelphia and New York City regions, Barbara Jean eventually established Brooklyn, New York as her permanent primary residence.
In the 1980’s Barbara Jean became a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn and accepted the Lord as her Savior. In her later years she became a member of St Anthony’s Baptist Church located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn where she continued to serve the Lorduntil her last breath.
Barbara Jean worked for the NYC Health Hospital Kings County Center for over 25 years, where her last role was a Senior Dietary Aide.
Barbara Jean loved to take trips with her friends to Atlantic City NJ in her retirement years. She was an avid watcher of television shows like Gunsmoke, Law & Order, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and her personal favorite Chicago PD. After learning the inner workings of operating a Kindle Fire Tablet, watching shows and clips on YouTube became her favorite hobby.
Proceeding Barbara Jean was her son Jeffrey Nichols, grandson Kenneth Nichols Jr., cousin Charles “Nicky” Nichols, and god-sister Eva Hooks.
Left to cherish Barbara Jean’s memories are her four children, Georgette Lloyd (husband Craig Lloyd), Kenneth Nichols (wife Carla Nichols), Gregory Nichols (wife Cheryl Beecham-Nichols), Bernard Nichols (wife Lashanda Haynes-Nichols),
12 grandchildren Kareem Lloyd (wife Nicole Lloyd), TiantayRobles (husband Raymond Robles), Nichelle Nichols, Destinee Lloyd, Jamal Nichols (wife Valerie Nichols), Jared Nichols, Hakim Warrick, Hadiya Nichols (wife Fallon Nichols), TaqueeNichols, Khalil Jackson, Nakeda Haynes-Nichols, KwesiWilliams, Kaliel Christopher.
17 great grandchildren Rayanna, Mia, Chance, Asher, Kody, Karlee, Majeed, Hanafi, Amor, Iya, Hayden, Jaycee, Naila, Khalari, Kwamir, Kaison, Kani, god-daughter Paula Brown, sister-law Emma Lloyd, a host of beloved cousins and dear friends.
