Bernadette Godette Harris

December 24, 1952 — March 24, 2022

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a Good Fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
2 TIMOTHY 4: 6-7
Bernadette G. Toon Harris, affectionally known as "Lou," was born on December 24, 1952 in New Bern, North Carolina to Effie Jane Toon and the late Roscoe Mike Toon. Lou attended and completed Godette Elementary, Havelock Junior High, and Havelock High School in Havelock, NC. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1971 where she was a great artist and an avid basketball player!
Lou grew up implementing positive, Christian values into her life and into the lives of others. Her display of unconditional LOVE was an everyday occurrence throughout Lou's life! She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Miracle Campground Pentecostal Holiness Church in Harlowe, NC. After graduating from high school, Lou eventually moved to Newport News, Virginia and worked several years as a manager at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Years later, she moved to Clayton, NC to be closer to her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, the late Roscoe Mike Toon, her son, Carl Lee Harris, Jr., and two of her sisters: Juanita Bryant and Rose M Foreman.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Carl Lee Harris, one daughter, Tammy Harris Mathewson (Anthony "Rambo") of Clayton, NC; two sons, Shannador Lee Harris (Teldron), and Franklin Roosevelt Harris "Man" of Raleigh, NC, her mother, Effie Jane Toon of Clayton, NC; three sisters, Gloria Marie Godette of Havelock, NC; Janice "Theresa" Wright (Bernard) of Locust Grove, GA; Marilyn "Lisa" Toon of Selma, NC; three brothers, David Lee Toon of Raleigh, NC; James "Jimmy" Toon of Anchorage, Alaska; and Douglas M Toon of Clayton NC; eight grandchildren- Shauntae, Ashan, Ashanti, Shania, Rolena, NyRuby, Xaialah, and Kamiyah; one great-grandchild-Bella Rose; an adoring, loving generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lou was so loved and admired by many because of her loving and generous spirit! As we reflect back on how she touched our lives along her journey, let us continue to keep Lou's love in our hearts!!! We thank and praise GOD for sharing Lou's unconditional love with us for 69 years!
