Betty Whitley Barbour

Mother Betty Newkirk Barbour was born on September 5, 1939 in Johnston County to Dorothy Watson. She was reared by Alice Newkirk. According to the divine plan of our Father, Betty was called home on February 13, 2018. She attended Johnston County Public Schools. She worked in Food Service for years as well as being a licensed beautician. Betty was also a foster parent for many. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Barbour; her mothers, Dorothy Watson and Alice Newkirk; son, Thomas Perry; two sisters, Margie Bridges and Jackie Dennis and brother, Bobby Hinton. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: four daughters, Alice Perry of Dunn, NC, Thelma (David) Ward of Smithfield, NC, Shannon Barbour, and Wysteria Walton; one son, William (Bernice) Whitley of Kinston, NC; one sister, Lottie Bland (Steve) of Raleigh, NC; 18 grandchildren including Dimeshia (Sha'mar) Williams of Watertown, NY; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She also leaves two special friends, Ms. Sylvia and Mrs. Dorothy Delaine.
