Bettie Allen Robinson was born to the union of the late Willis and Katie Nixon Allen April 14, 1923 in Ingrams Township, North Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord September 4, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and son, Linwood.
Bettie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Hickory Grove Disciple Church. Educated in the Johnston County System she graduated from Johnston County Training school in 1944. Bettie played basketball during her high school years. Her vibrant personality gained many friends for her.
In the 40's Bettie met and later married Lawrence Edward Robinson. Together, they shared more than 50 years of matrimony. To this union two children were born; Lawrence Linwood and Abrilla. Following her marriage to Lawrence, the newlyweds relocated to Highland Park, MI.
Bettie was a faithful and active member of Thompson Ave. Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan that later became Dexter Ave. Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. William Haney.
In 1994, Bettie relocated to her family home in Smithfield, NC where she resided until her passing. Bettie was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and led many church classes. During her residency in Smithfield, Bettie enjoyed the company of family and friends. She was a mentor and counselor to many who crossed her path. A member of the Smithfield Beautification Committee, an avid gardener who grew and canned much of her food, she was also positive voice for change in the Smithfield community. Known also for her love of traveling, Bettie made many trips including a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Bettie leaves to cherish fond memories a loving and devoted daughter, Abrilla Robinson; a granddaughter, Lynette; a grandson Lawrence; three great granddaughter Lauren, LaShawn and Lai-Auna; three
sisters, Mazie Williams and Rosa Johnson of Smithfield, NC; Katie McLean of Neptune, NJ; one brother, Matthew Allen (Virginia) of Neptune, NJ; one sister-in-law, Lettie Allen of Smithfield, NC; a goddaughter and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 2-8 Wednesday at Sanders Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Smithfield.
