Eldress Blonnie Mae Williams Hagans was one of thirteen
children of the late Tony Albert Williams and Annabelle Artist
Williams. She was born on May 1, 1918, and departed this life on
January 25, 2017, in Smithfield, North Carolina.
A native of Wayne County, Mother Hagans received her
early education from the Wayne County School System.
If you had a chance to hear her stories, she often spoke of
accepting the proposal of the late Ammie Edward Hagans after his fifth
time asking for her hand in marriage! At the age of 24, she married the
love of her life, and to this union, they reared seven children.
Mother Hagans worked as a cook and chef at several
restaurants in Johnston County. She accepted Jesus as her personal
savior, and joined Smith Chapel Disciples of Christ in Selma, North
Carolina. She held several positions within Smith Chapel. A teacher at
heart, she taught Sunday and Bible School. She served on the
missionary board and accepted the call to preach the gospel.
In 1983, Mother Hagans suffered from an aneurysm, in
which the doctors said she wouldn't survive. But what a mighty God we
serve! The Lord saw fit for her to live and continue blessing, healing
and praying for anyone she encountered. Whenever asked how she
was doing, she proudly declared that she was "doing a hundred."
Later in life, Mother Hagans joined Wesley Chapel A.M.E
Church where she continued giving God all the praise.
Her parents, husband and twelve siblings preceded her in
death along with her children Albert Hagans, Jr., Lettie Belle
Richardson, Edward Earl Hagans and Daisy Pearl White, and
grandchild Janet Denise Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Dessie
Marie McNeil of Selma, N.C., Sallie Mae Smith of Clayton, N.C. and
son Kenneth Earl Hagans (Jean) of Smithfield, N.C. She also leaves a
daughter in-law, Rosa Hagans of Raleigh, N.C., two son-in-laws, Jimmie
White of Clayton, N.C. and Willie McNeil of Fayetteville, N.C.,
sixteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, two great-great
grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
