Carol Joan Nobles was born on March 13, 1939, to the late Clinton & Alice Nobles in Princeton, North Carolina.
Years later, after the birth of her baby sister, Latlee, the family decided to head up north to make Washington, D.C. their home.
After several years in D.C., opportunities led them further north to New York City. Joan, as we affectionately called her, graduated from Jane
Addams Vocational High School is located in Bronx, N.Y. After graduation, she worked as an operator for N.Y. Telephone Company. Her true love and career were in the field of nursing. She cared for babies in the Pediatric Unit at Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital. After 17 years, she went on to work at North General Hospital is located in East Harlem. She happily retired at the young age of 62! Joan had a LOVE for travel. Throughout the years she would be seen packing her bags and setting out on beautiful excursionsâ¦either to Hawaii, cruises to the Caribbean, and of course visiting family everywhere on the East Coast and friends on the west coast in California.
She took after her mother, Alice, and was a devout member of Greater File Chapel Baptist Church for over 30 years. She was the President of the Nurses Ministry and volunteered with the Soup Kitchen Ministry helping to feed those who were not as fortunate.
You could hear the pride in her voice as she would conversate about her experiences and how she was able to bring smiles and laughter to those faces on those difficult days. Joan will be sorely missed as she definitely filled the matriarchal shoes of her mother, Alice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton & Alice Nobles, her son, Ted Jr., and her sister, Latlee Watkins. Joan leaves to cherish fond memories, her daughter, Carolyn Yvette (Fee-Fee) Nobles (GA); her special granddaughter, Dominique Bailey (OH); her niece Kisha Denise (Jeff "2-5") Young & great-nephews, Arlondus & Christian (GA), her "adopted son" & Cousin, Mitchell (Patricia) Strong (NY), her "adopted grandson" & Cousin, Montell (Nadine) Strong (NY); a HOST of godchildren & Special cousins, Patricia Williams, Margie Sykes, Glennie Parks, Barbara (Felicia) Whitleyâ¦there are far too many to name⦠from Connecticut to North Carolina whom she loved and cared for from the bottom of her heart.
