Carolyn Elizabeth Jackson Butts

Elder Carolyn Elizabeth Jackson Butts was born in Wake County, North
Carolina on June 26, 1955, to the late Robert L. Herndon and the late Helen
Williams Jackson and is preceded in death by her son Ronald lee Jackson and
two sisters, Joann Jackson, and Christine Perry.
She departed this life on October 21, 2022.
She attended Wake County Public Schools until she moved to Johnston
County at the age of 16. Shortly thereafter she began to attend True Way
Holiness Church where her mother was a member. This is where she first
learned about Jesus and developed a great love for Him. She joined True Way
Holiness Church in the '70s and worked in many capacities. She loved to sing
and she sang in the young adult action choir for many years.
She answered the call to minister in 1983 under the leadership of the late
Bishop Geraldine Bailey. She was also the late Bishop's personal housekeeper.
Elder Carolyn was ordained an Elder in 2020 at Restoration Hope and
Deliverance where the Pastor is Sherman Howell, and the Miracle Temple
Holiness Church, where the overseer is Apostle Wilma Ward Hampton. She
worked diligently in the church as a minister, Sunday School teacher, Praise
and Worship leader, and whatever she could put her hands to do.
Elder Carolyn was very family-oriented. It gave her joy to be a part of any
family gatherings and also organizing them!
She leaves to mourn her passing, five children: Tammy Calhoun (Anthony) of
Benson, NC; Stacey Jackson of Rocky Mount, NC; Jeremy Jackson of Benson,
NC; Kendra Vereen of Dunn, NC; Jaquavius Jackson of Dunn, NC. Four
sisters: Betty Ellerbee of Coats, NC; Joyce Farmer of Benson, NC; Helena
Lucas of Raleigh, NC; Lisa Moore of Dillon, SC. Four brothers: James Jackson
of Coats, NC; Pastor Darryl Jackson (Connie); Sammy Williams (Tomecca);
Paul Williams of Benson, NC. Fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, and three very special friends: Mary Howell, Laura Giles, and
Rosa Degraffenried.
