Carolyn Maureen Avery Zimdahl
Carolyn Maureen Avery Zimdahl, 51, of Champaign, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at 3:31 p.m., at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
Carolyn was born March 1, 1958, to Elisha and Lenearl 'Nora' Avery in Washington, D.C., who preceded her in death, along with a brother, Clarence, and a sister, Dorothy.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Zimdahl, of Rantoul; a grandson, Khalil Muhammad, of Rantoul; a godson, Curtis 'Steve' Scott of Wisconsin; a goddaughter, Tiara Kelly, of Rantoul; sisters, Rosalyn Nixon, of Maryland, Alice Hackley, of Washington, D.C., Stella Joseph, of Georgia, Kathy Bingham, of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
After graduating from high school in 1976, she enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she served for four years. Once she was discharged from the Army, she moved to Illinois.
Carolyn attended Parkland College in Champaign, where she earned her Associates Degree in Elementary Education. After completing her education at Parkland, she began working at the University of Illinois as an Office Support Specialist in the Recreation and Park Resources Department, where she remained employed until her passing.
As a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Champaign, she served on the trustee board, was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School, and held the position of church clerk for several years.
Carolyn's hobbies included being an avid Star Trek fan, devoted Illini fan, reading, sewing, knitting, and spending time with her family, friends, and loved ones.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home From 3-7pm on April 7,2009 Graveside will be held on April 8, 2009 at Sneads Cemetery in Four Oaks,Nc
Memorial contributions in Carolyn's memory may be made to a college fund being created for her grandson, Khalil
