I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: and not to
me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
Memorial Reflections
God opened Heaven's gates to receive His faithful child, Celicious Lewis
Manning Jr. "C.L.". C.L was the youngest child and only son born to
Myrial Arvella Haynes Manning and the late Reverend C. L. Manning,
Sr. on February 17, 1969. He gave his life to Christ at a very young age
and was baptized by his father.
He transitioned into his final rest on March 30, 2020 at Johnston
Memorial Hospital. C.L. was preceded in death by his father, Reverend
C.L. Manning, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. Samuel Manning,
Mrs. Flossie Lewis Manning and Mrs. Emma Manning; his maternal
grandparents, Mr. Frank Elmo Haynes and Mrs. Mary Emma Pridgen
Haynes.
Despite his health restrictions as a young child, C.L. excelled
academically. Although he spent most of his senior year in Duke
Hospital, he graduated from Smithfield Selma Senior High School on
time. C.L. entered Johnston Community College and graduated with
an associate degree in General Education. He continued his education
and enrolled into Saint Augustine's University where he was inducted
into the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society. He graduated Magna Cum
Laude from the university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration. He worked for various companies until his health
declined.
C.L. was a faithful servant of God and excellent student of God's Holy
Word. He was an active member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church
in Smithfield, North Carolina where he served as President of the Usher
Board for many years. He previously taught Sunday School and
participated in church programs.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his mother, Myrial Arvella Haynes
Manning of the home; Myrial Angela Manning Taylor (Darren) of
Fayetteville, North Carolina; Eleanor Manning Samuels Gullett of Cary,
North Carolina. CL was an adoring uncle to four nephews: Andrew
Allen Samuels, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia, Sterling Jamaal Samuels of
Odenton, Maryland, Darren Lamont Taylor II of Camp Humphries, South
Korea and Deon Lewis Taylor of Fayetteville, North Carolina. C.L. was
loved tremendously by his aunts: Earl Christine Haynes Johnson of
Largo, Maryland and Victoria Haynes McDonald Carr of Orlando,
Florida. C.L. leaves a host of cousins and friends.
