Elder Charles F. Sykes was born on April 13, 1941 to Leymon Sykes, Sr and Mable Lee Rogers Sykes in Wayne County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on March 30, 2020.
Elder Sykes attended Richard B. Harrison School in Selma, NC. On April 24, 1964 he married the love of his life, Margie G. Sykes. To this union was born one daughter, Ruby. He worked for over 25 years for a manufacturing company in Princeton, NC.
Accepting God's call upon his life, Elder Sykes became an ordained minister on April 28, 1979 at the Goldsboro Raleigh District Assembly (Disciples of Christ). He served as pastor of St. Stephens Church of Christ in Princeton, NC for four years and Pineville Chapel Church of Christ in Clayton, NC for 17 years.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Margie G. Sykes of the home; one daughter, Ruby Farrior (Nathan, Sr.) of Durham, NC; his grandchildren, Andrea Farrior Hanks (deceased) and Nathan Farrior, Jr. of Durham, NC; four great grandchildren, Jaiden Hunter, Jazmine Hunter, Jailah Farrior and Eugene Hanks, III, all of Durham, NC; sisters, Lois M. Broadie (Marvin) of LaGrange, NC, Elder Geraldine Sykes, Elder Betty Sykes, Mable Sykes, all of Goldsboro, NC and Margie Lassiter (deceased); brothers, Willie J. Sykes of Goldsboro, NC and Bishop Leamon Sykes, Jr. (Sandra) of Princeton, NC and a host of other relatives and friends.
