Dorothy Louise Dublin Watson

June 22, 1934 — August 20, 2017

Dorothy Louise Watson was born June 22, 1934 in Smithfield, NC to Zilla Mae Dublin and Zell Bunch. She was raised until the age of fourteen in the home of her grandparents, Dora Whitley and Russell Dublin under the watchful eye of her aunts and uncles.
After joining her mother in Virginia, Dorothy finished her high school education and attended Norfolk State University for a short time. In 1954, she married a local boy, Jimmy Watson. They moved and finally settled in Philadelphia where their union gave them three children: Vanessa, K. Michelle and Duane Russell.
She was employed by The City of Philadelphia as a Supervisor at Philadelphia General Hospital and The Health Department from which she retired. Dorothy was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and served on the Willing Workers Club and other auxiliaries.
After retiring and moving to her beloved hometown, Dottie, as she was often called, joined Green Chapel Baptist Church. There she served as church secretary for over twenty years, President of the church choir and assisted with the missionary and kitchen committee. She was also a faithful member of Bible Study and Sunday School.
Dottie had two passions - feeding the body and soul of all those around her. There was never a person she would not help, often to her own detriment. She lived with an open heart and soul to serve her Lord and Savior. No matter the reason, season or person--yes was always the answer. A bag of food, money slipped in hand or a phone call, Dottie was living her belief without question all in the name of God.
Dottie was a wonderful cook who loved to see people, especially children, eat. There were numerous events where a cake, salad, or ham was made by her loving hand. Cooking was her act of love and many were fed by it.
She is survived by: her two daughters, Vanessa Watson Giles of Philadelphia, PA, and K. Michelle Watson of Smithfield, NC and a son, Duane Russell Watson of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Giles and Derrick Miles Amos and her great-granddaughter, Kennedy Giles. She will be missed by a host of relatives and friends.
