Erma Geneva Mc Dougle

November 15, 1926 — July 18, 2013

Mrs. Erma G McDougle, 87, of Clayton, NC passed away at Wake Medical Center on Thursday, July 18, 2013. She was the daughter of Claudius and Maggie McCallum Gardner. She graduated from Shaw University in 1946 earning a BA Degree in Elementary Education. At Shaw, she was a "Big Sister" to the freshman class, including Eula Watson Carter. She also co-authored a book on the history of the Johnston District Baptist Association with Mrs. E. B. Penny.



She taught at Richard B. Harrison, in Wilmington, NC, Virginia, and ended her career in Raleigh, NC. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Johnston County, where she served as secretary. She was historian of the Johnston District Baptist Association and Historian of the NC District 11 Retired Teachers. At First Baptist Church, she served as the Editor of the newsletter, church clerk, pianist, and member of the Pastor's Selection Committee.



She resided at 726 Norris Road, Clayton, NC. A road was named for her in her community. She was an avid supporter of the Johnston County Chapter of Shaw Alumni and a staunch supporter of Shaw University. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, the late Mrs. Cynthia Rhoena Sanders.



Graveside services will be conducted Monday July 22, 2013 at 10:00 at Selma Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 2:00-6:00 pm.
