Ethel Redmond was born January 1, 1912 in Johnston County. She was the third child of eleven children born to the late Robert and Loney Redmond. She departed this earthly life on June 13, 2009. Preceding her in death were two brothers (Roosevelt and Wardell) and four sisters (Viola, Nova Mae, Mozelle and Nova).

She was educated in the Johnston County School System. She returned to North Carolina in 1977 and continued her Christian journey through fellowship at Mt. Zion Holines Church in Princeton. Her death leaves an empty seat on the Mother's Board of her beloved church, St. James Church of Christ. She was a committed, spiritual and "anchored in the Lord" woman of God.
