Etta Joyce Frazier English

January 4, 1936 — May 9, 2016

Etta Joyce (Frazier) English was born January 4, 1936 to Leondras (Lee) and Martha Frazier. She was the only girl among three brothers, William Lee Frazier, Reginald Frazier (deceased), and Charles Frazier. At an early age, she met and married Arthur Middleton in New York City and they had two children, Beverly (Middleton) Murphy and Mark Middleton (deceased). After the marriage ended, she later met and married Daniel English (deceased), a retired Navy NCO. Years passed and she met her life partner, Robert Weaver.
Joyce graduated in 1954 from Johnston County Training School in Smithfield, NC and immediately entered North Carolina Central University (then called North Carolina College at Durham). She later transferred to Robert Fance School of Cosmetology in New York City under the supervision of her Aunt Gladys Joyner (deceased). She went on to become a very well-known stylist in Harlem under the Director, Henri Judon. She was a very popular stylist for many celebrities and performers at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem. After spending more than 25 years in New York, she returned to Smithfield and practiced beauty culture at her home, where she eventually retired.
A free spirit, Joyce was the life of any party, always upbeat regardless of the circumstances. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. She was an artist, a daughter, a mother, a lover, a sister, a friend, and a caregiver. As a member of the American Legion Post 270 and the Johnston County Scholarship Club, she garnered a host of lifelong friendships that she cherished.
Most importantly, she was a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ from which came her faith, strength, and love of all life. She is mourned by her daughter, siblings, cousins, in-laws, and a host of family and friends.
God gave her this earthly life, but promised her eternal life in her heavenly home. God has now given her eternal peace in her heavenly home. Those who know and love her are sure that she is decorating.
