Eugene Harris

May 3, 1939 — August 10, 2013

Eugene Harris was born in Johnston County on May 3, 1939 to the late Howard Harris and Romitchell Coley. He was educated in the Johnston Central School System. Mr. Eugene Harris of 505 Big Pine Road, Clayton, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2013 at UNC Hospital.

After graduating he resided in New York and worked as a custodian for many years. He finally decided to move back to North Carolina and marry his High School sweet heart Yvonnie Moore. Eugene joined Avery Grove AME Zion Church, served in many capacities of the church until his health began to decline. He enjoyed gardening and traveling.

He leaves precious memories with: his loving wife Yvonnie Harris of Clayton, NC, two sons Anthony Harris of Smithfield, NC and Robert Harris of New York, one step-daughter Angela Greene of Clayton, NC, two step-grandsons Deshawn Greene of Clayton, NC and Wayne Greene of Fort Jackson, SC, four sisters Nettie Mae Sanders of Cleveland, Ohio, Gertrude Mitchell of Selma, NC, Emily Harris of Smithfield, NC and Floretta Stancil of Wilson Mills, NC, one brother, Clement Harris (Linda) of Selma, NC three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews other loving relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Avery Grove AME Church in Smithfield, NC. There will be a viewing one hour prior to funeral services. The family will be receiving friends at the home.
