Eunice Georgia Newsome Coates was the third child of Willie and Hattie Newsome (deceased). She was born in Selma, NC on January 12, 1934. She departed this life on December 25, 2018.
After her father's death, she was reared by her maternal grandparents, Addie and Dempsey Watson. Eunice joined the Red Hill Christian Church along with her sisters and brothers at the age of nine. She graduated from the Johnston County Training School in 1951. She left North Carolina and attended school at Virginia Union University and the Medical Of Virginia. After graduation, she moved to Washington, DC with her mother.
She was employed at Walter Reed Army Hospital for nine years as a registered nurse. She later transferred to DC General Hospital. She spent a total of 35 years in the Federal Government. After retiring from the Federal Government, she worked at St. Lukes Hospital for nuns and priests for 10 years.
On December 2002, she returned to North Carolina and lived on her grandfather's property. She rejoined the Red Hill UCC of Christ in 2003 and was a member until her death. She loved working in her yard and decorating. During the years, Eunice not only took care of others but she took care of her family in their sicknesses.
Eunice is preceded in death by Robert and Bernice Foye, Russell and Gladys Debnam, Willie Dempsey Newsome, and Derrick Ruffin Debnam.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her nieces, Clentis D. Eunice left this special message to Pat, Diane and Keith: "Try to live a Christian life, put God First and remember the Commandments."
