Evelyn Lyons Lee, known to many as "Rootsie," was born August 14, 1943, to the late Alford Lyons and Lila Simms Lyons. She was called gently called home and entered eternal rest on Monday, December 7, 2020.
She was married to Aaron Gerald Lee. She proceeded in death by her sisters, Ethel Lyons Hopkins, Lena Simms Stevens, Rosa Lyons Stevens, and Luvenia Mayo Daniel; her brothers, Harold Lyons, Robert Lyons, Neal Simms, Eddie Lyons, and Charles Lyons.
Evelyn attended Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, North Carolina. She joined St. John A.M.C. church in Selma, North Carolina, where she attended for many years. Years later she retired from Conagra Foods formally known as Jesse Jones "The Slim Jim Plant," in Garner, North Carolina.
Her love and compassion for her family motivated her to work hard. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and spending time with all of her family. Evelyn's love, laughter, and jokes touched the lives of many. Her never-ending mission was to keep her family bonded together! Evelyn was the true definition of a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memories: her children Shelby Carol Lee, Marval Lorraine Lee, and Anthony Twaine Lee, all of Selma, NC; one brother, Willie Earl Lyons of Durham, NC; one sister in law Dorothy Lyons of Durham, NC; two brothers in law; Jasper Hopkins of Newark, NJ and Larry Lee of Selma, NC; three grandchildren, Antonio Lee, Arieal Lee, and Jameka Price all of Selma, NC; five great-grandchildren; many nieces including Gloria Jean Lyons and Shavon Jackson; several nephews including Jimmy Stevens; host of other relatives and special cousin Linda Williams.
