Frances Lucille Tomlinson Whitaker was born on May 16, 1942, to the late Clearthur and Beatrice Tomlinson. She departed this earthly life on July 11, 2020.
Frances graduated in 1959 from Johnston County Training School, which was later renamed Johnston Central High School. Later, she enrolled in Johnston Community College and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) Certificate. She was married to the late Charles Whitaker, who preceded her in death in 2002. Four children were born to this union.
Frances has been a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Smithfield, NC for over fifty years. She served in many capacities in the ministry to include: President of the Missionary Ministry, President of the Gospel Choir, and Co-Chairperson of the Hospitality Ministry. She loved attending Bible Study and supporting all church programs. Frances was also involved in many community activities including Treasurer of Silverdale Court #134, Order of Eastern Star, Assistant Recorder of the Mizpah Court #129, Goldsboro, NC, Women's Club of St. Peter's Disciples Church and a member of the Outreach Singers.
Frances enjoyed cooking which she did exceptionally well, reading, sewing, and watching television. Her motto was "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
Frances leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Linwood Tomlinson (Sonya), Tracy Whitaker (Marcia), Kelvin Whitaker (Michelle), and Tanisha Whitaker Taylor (Edward); three grandchildren, Christopher, Nathan, and Kayla. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
