Georgia Marie Stinney Sanders was born in Selma, North Carolina to the late George Stinney and Allena Stewart Stinney on July 29, 1934. She was the youngest of four children. Ms. Georgia Sanders, 79, of Raleigh passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Capital Nursing-SNF.
She received her early education at Johnston County training school. After high school Georgia moved to New York and married James H. Sanders. Together they had five children. While in New York, she was a very active member of Bethany Baptist Church, The Eastern Stars, served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Georgia attended Long Island University where she earned an Associates Degree in Applied Science. While working as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing. Georgia continued her education at Long Island University in the Physician's Assistant Program. Georgia was very proud to be awarded the 9th Physician's Assistant License for the State of New York. Georgia had a long rewarding career at Bird S. Coler Memorial Hospital; she retired after working 25 years.
Anyone who knew Georgia knew she loved fashion, shopping, and sewing. She was known for being "Diva". She had an extensive collection of shoes, bags and coats. While on this earth she lived wonderful life.
She was preceded in death by her sons Mark and Michael Sanders, her daughter Marvala Sanders, grandson Mercury Sanders and her great-great granddaughter Mahogani Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters Melody Sanders & Melbrenia Sanders Redmond (Dennis); Grandchildren, Manjuan, Monique, Mayveta, Marvetta, Mitchelette, Modesta, Thomas, Tyrone, Mercedes, Michael Jr., Markiss, Martrenia, Michael (Mikey), Madrique, Mekhale, Mark Jr., Shaquana, LaTrisha; 25 great grandchildren; 4 nieces; 5 nephews, and a host of friends, and family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 1:00 pm at New Generation Christian Church in Wilson Mills, NC. Officiating will be James Gathers, Jr. Pastor is Addie M. Harris Rawls.
