Helen Christine (McClamb) Holder was born on November 7th, 1933 in
Johnston County in a Christian loving home. Her family attended Willow
Springs Baptist church. She attended school in Johnston County where
she received her High School Diploma. Christine as she was called by her
family decided to further her education and attended Saint. Augustine
College in Raleigh NC. While in college she joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority
and completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She moved to Weldon North Carolina
when she completed college and taught in the school system for
one year. Shortly after her time in Weldon She and Sherlock Holder decided
to marry. With the encouragement of family in New York; they Moved to
Buffalo and began their life together.
Helen found work as a Social Worker and remained with the Erie County
Department of Social Services for over Twenty- Eight Years, until her
retirement. Helen and Sherlock spent many years planning for their
retirement and when the time was right: they had their home built and
returned to Smithfield. When Helen and Sherlock returned to Smithfield,
they searched for a church home and found it at St. Amanda Baptist
Church; They joined and attended regularly until they experienced declining
health.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Sherlock, Her father
George McClamb and Her mother Vera McClamb. Siblings preceding her
in death were a brother Geroge McClamb, and Sisters Lois Hodges and
Doris Howell. Brothers in Laws Willie Jay Holder, Johnny B. Holder, and
Fairlow Holder.
She leaves to mourn Her sons Larry(kay) of the home and Sherill of Sumter
SC, her sisters Vera Stevens, Betty McClamb of Buffalo NY, Eva Merritt
of Ft Lee Virginia, and Charlotte Morris of Raleigh NC. Two Brothers
David McClamb and Louis McClamb of Buffalo New York. Sisters In Law
Ethel Puckett and Elder Elsie Holder of Clayton North Carolina, Sofronia
Steadman, Mary Helen Auguste of New York and Anne Marie Holder of
Four Oaks, North Carolina.
She also leaves to mourn four Grandsons Derrick (Shere), Frederick
(Alicia), Noah (Helen), Larry as well as nine great-grandchildren and a very
special Cousin Pearl Sanders who like Kay was a daughter to her.
In a world that can sometimes seem dark, she was a beacon of light, a vessel
of love and a testament of strong faith and endurance.
