Mr. Hubert Avery was born on March 6, 1937, to the late Offie Avery and Etta Sanders Avery in Smithfield, NC. Mr. Avery transitioned peacefully on March 2, 2020, at home with family around. He is preceded in death by four sisters; Nora Murrell, Mary Graham, Alberta Avery Blackmon, and Swannie Avery and five brothers; Chester Sanders, Alton Sanders, Jessie Sanders, Charlie Avery, and Dewey Avery.
Mr. Avery graduated from Johnston County Training School. After graduating he went on to get his Bachelor's from Saint Augustine's in Raleigh, NC. He earned his Master's Degree from A&T University in Greensboro, NC. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Mr. Avery was a master teacher of biology with Johnston County school for forty years. He expected excellence from his students demanded that they have good discipline, respect for authority and each other. He also worked as a chemist for Jesse Jones Foods.
Mr. Avery leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Patricia Avery; one son Tol Avery and two step-children Toney Blackmon and Cynthia Barfield. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother Offie Avery ( Bettie) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
