Homegoing Service For Idella Watson-Gordon
I shall fall asleep someday and from earth shall pass away.
But my soul shall reach a better land.
****************************************************************
Idella Watson- Gordon was born in Johnston County. Clayton, NC September 27th, 1930 to the
late Reverend James Galloway Watson, Sr. and Meta Hines-Watson.
According to the will of our Heavenly Father, Idella was called from Labor to Reward on
Sunday, August 16th at the UNC Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Raleigh, NC and was
granted everlasting peace. She was married to the late Reverend Leroy Gordon of Raleigh N.C.
To this union were born fraternal twins, Michael Antonio (deceased) and Michelle Antwan
Gordon.
Idella accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early and joined Red Hill United Church Of
Christ. She was a faithful supporter and worker until her health began to fail. Idella was the secretary of
Sunday School for many years and coordinated our special Children's Day Program given the fourth
Sunday in June every year. Children waited anxiously for their name to be called to recite that special
poem, sing a song, or participate in other group presentations. Idella sang in the senior choir and
served as secretary and treasurer for many years.
Idella was a graduate of Johnston County Training School, Class of 1953. The school's name
was later changed to Johnston Central High School
Idella was employed with the K R Edwards Tobacco Company in Smithfield, NC. She operated
a Daycare in her home in Raleigh for many years. She was a kind, caring, giving, compassionate and
loving person. She admired her sisters and brothers, especially her nieces and nephews.
Idella was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Beulah Watson,· Ida Wilson, and Rosetta
Watson; and brothers, Alonzo Watson, Sr., Onslow Watson, James Galloway Watson, Jr. (Cheekco),
and Howard Watson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Michelle Lane; grandchildren, Lance Lane and
Lana Lane of Raleigh NC; sisters, Eula W. Carter of Clayton, NC, and Christabelle (Alexander Robert)
Harlee, Jr. of Clayton, NC; sister-in-law, Catherine Revell Watson of Selma NC; and a host of
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
