Mrs. Janie Staggers Fridie was born on September 30, 1928, in
Charleston, South Carolina to the late Rev. John Henry Staggers and the
late Emma Bradshaw Staggers. Mrs. Janie Fridie was the fifth child of eight
siblings. Predeceased by seven siblings, she is survived by her sister Marie
Wallace. Having experienced 93 years, Mrs. Janie Fridie was called from
labor to reward on April 5, 2022.
Mrs. Fridie graduated from Claflin University with a Bachelor of
Science degree in May 1950 and ultimately entered a career as a sixth grade
schoolteacher.
Mrs. Janie Fridie met her beloved husband, James Robert Fridie
who predeceased her on November 13, 2021, at Claflin University where
they were study partners. They were married on December 24, 1950.
The family was the center of their life. They were the proud parents of six
children. Her son Vincent Fridie preceded her in death. Left to treasure
her memory are her children: Janice Fridie, Esq. of Maryland; James Fridie
II, of Indiana; Donna Parker, M.D. (Midgett Parker, Esq.) of Maryland;
Kevin Fridie, M.D. (Marcelita Fridie), of California; and Lisa Oke (Dean
Oke) of Spain. Their family includes nine grandchildren: Pablo, Joshua,
Stephanie, Elisabeth, James III, Midgett III, Dominique, Jordan, and Tara;
eight great-grandchildren: Emma, Cadence, Remi, Maya, Kai, Ezra, Lauren,
and Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mrs. Janie Fridie was active in church at an early age. Upon settling in the
metropolitan Washington, DC area she joined St. Paul AME Church, and
later St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Annapolis, Maryland. She was very
active in church and a faithful member.
Mr. and Mrs. Fridie retired to Clayton, North Carolina where
they attended Mount Vernon Christian Church. Mrs. Janie Fridie enjoyed
reading, traveling, and listening to Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Ella
Fitzgerald and Mahalia Jackson with her cherished husband of 70 years.
