Joao Manuel Oliveira Arruda

In loving memory of Joao Manuel Oliveira Arruda, of Four Oaks, NC. Joao was born on October 10th, 1957, and peacefully passed away at his home on October 9th, 2023, at 65.

Joao was born in a small town called Joao Bom Bretanha in Sao Miguel Azores. To Jose Pereira de Arruda and Margarida de Medeiros Oliveira. He was the second child of eight children. (Helena Leonor, Maria do Rosario, Guida, Americo, Emanuel, Lucia, and deceased brother Jose Octavio)

He migrated to Massachusetts in June 1977, where he married the love of his life, Goretti Fragata on July 23^rd, 1977.

Joao was a loving husband, and father, and was beloved by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle nature, and unwavering dedication to his family. Joao's presence brought joy and warmth to those around him, and his memory will forever be treasured. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.

In addition to his loving family in Sao Miguel, Joao is survived by his loving wife, Goretti, and their four children; Kimberly, Diana, Houston, and Andrew Arruda, who were by his side during his final moments at home. He was a pillar of support and love for his family, always nurturing them with care and love, just as he did with his beloved gardens. Joao found solace in caring for his gardens, singing, and spending time with his beloved family.

He was known for his humor and strong presence, Joao was always at the center of attention during gatherings, bringing laughter and light to those around him. His vibrant spirit infectious laughter and big smile will be deeply missed.

Joao Manuel Oliveira Arruda will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Joao's life at New Fellowship Church, located at 2777 NC Highway 210, Smithfield, NC, on Saturday, October 14th, 2023. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. A Repast will be held following the service at 160 Solomon Cir, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
