Josephine Griffis was born on November 13, 1937, in Wake County, NC. She passed on September 18, 2013.

Josephine joined Springfield Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated at Garner Consolidated School. Josephine was a dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, care giver, and friend. She was always very giving. Any family member who called on her, she would answer the bell. She worked hard to provide for her family. She worked at Cross Poultry for eighteen years, and she retired after working with honors for 23 years at Wake Medical Center.

Josephine affectionately called Mama leaves to cherish her memories; three daughters Rosa Walker (Lawrence) of Clayton, NC, Peggy Strickland of Raleigh, NC, and Brenda Griffis of Apex, NC; two sons, Billy Griffis and Lamont Griffis of Raleigh, NC; seventeen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; two loving and faithful sisters, Annie McLaurin and Fannie Strickland (James) of Raleigh, NC; a long time loving and caring friend, Rufus Ruffin of Raleigh, NC; two special friends, Gloria Leach and Anthony Jones; a special daughter-in-law, La Quer Griffis, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special thanks to Crystal Lee for her faithful assistance.

Josphine was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Griffis; two sisters, Goldie Hinton and Louise Griffis; three brothers, Algie Griffis, Quincy Griffis, and Johnny Griffis.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Springfield Baptist Church, located at 4309 Auburn Knightdale Road in Raleigh, NC. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral services.
