Keefe Sr. was born on December 3, 1950 in Washington DC to the late Theodore and Helen Matthews. On Friday, September, 26 2014, Keefe Sr. transitioned from this world and entered into that peaceful and restful place called Heaven. Keefe Sr. was preceded in death by his wife Emma Matthews and sister Bonita Brogans.
Keefe Sr. attended and graduated from Cardozo High School in Washington DC. Keefe Sr. was a talented tennis player & loved the sport. Besides his other love for eating fried chicken wings, Keefe Sr. loved music and dancing. His album collection was extensive. He could give you the details of every classic "Oldie but Goodie" song on the market and tell you about it, as if he was there when they wrote and recorded the song.
Keefe Sr. worked for Georgetown University as a Special Police Officer for many years. He then continued his employment with Pepco as Special Police Officer. He also worked as a Special Police Officer for other companies within the Washington DC Metro area. He later moved to Smithfield, N. C. where he worked in multiple capacities. As way to help others and earn extra money, Keefe Sr. worked as a painter. Give him some chicken wings & you could get an entire room painted. He would often ask, "Do you see paint on me?" and the answer would be "No, I don't see any paint on you" and he would say, "That's because it's on your wall where it's supposed to be!" He took great pride in his work.
Keefe Sr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who brought laughter into the lives of everyone he encountered. His big heart and gift of gab will forever remain on our hearts and minds.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son Keefe L. Matthews Jr., daughter-in-law Katina Matthews, three grandsons Tavian, Tavon and Khamani Matthews, of Lorton, VA; one brother Theodore Matthews of Washington DC; one sister Shelia (Ricky) Shepard-Ramos of Chester, VA; 4 brother-in-laws; , Kenneth (Diane) Morris of Capital Heights, MD, Joseph (Rhonda) Morris of Upper Marlboro, MD, Sylvester Morris of Greenbelt, MD, Samuel Morris of Temple Hills, MD, one aunt Matti Lawson, six nieces, five nephews, eight great niece, nine great nephews and a countless number of other dear relatives and friends.
