Luz Maria Suarez Quinones was born in St. Croix Virgin Islands on September 10, 1952, to Francisca Santos and Clemente Suarez. At the age of 16 Maria moved to New Jersey to live with her sister. She attended New Jersey public high school but did not graduate high school, receiving her GED instead. Maria became a Home Health Aide assisting many patients and working at the YWCA. She would meet her late husband, Angel Quinones, in NJ while she was taking care of a patient in a building where he was the Superintendent. After moving to North Carolina, she worked for Johnston UNC Health Care as a Food Service Worker.
Maria leaves behind two children, Tim and Deanna; one stepson, Jose Alejandro; six grandchildren; one sister, Amelia Ayala; one brother-in-law, Hector Quinones; one daughter-in-law, Girsul Smith; one sister-in-law, Maryellen Quinones; three sisters-in-law, Esther Jean Jacques, Josephine Quinones Crawford; Noemi Fuscaldo and a host of nephews and nieces which all loved her immensely.
Maria was a devoted wife and mother that loved to have fun, laugh, cook, and drink beer. For her loved ones, she would do almost anything. She kept things as real as can be, was brutally honest, and if you needed to have an impromptu dance party, she was in! She was incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loving always with a playful twist.
