Mr. Mario Devon Godwin was born on May 4, 1988 to Jannette and Calvin Godwin. On August 18, 2017, Mario gained his wings surrounded by his loving family. Mario was reared into part by Annabella (grandmother-deceased), Betsy (aunt-deceased), and Carolyn Godwin (aunt) with whom he has resided with for many years. His maternal grandparents, Margie Catherine Buie and George Lenard Buie of Smithfield, NC preceded him in death and three uncles.
Mario was a 2006 graduate of Smithfield Selma Senior High School. After high school, Mario attended Johnston Community College where he received two certificates in Nurse Aid Training and Pharmacy He was employed by Kmart in Smithfield until 2013 when it closed. Mario became a sales representative for Avon in 2014. He was employed as a Support Manger at PetSmart in Smithfield until his health began to decline in 2016. Mario truly had an impact on every one he met. He loved flowers and cooking. Mario was a member of Bethel AME Church on Hwy 96 in Selma, NC.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Janette and Calvin Godwin of Selma, NC; one brother, Calvin Godwin, Jr. (Dana) of Middlesex, NC; and seven aunts, Carolyn Godwin of the home, Fairy Godwin of the home, Jaunita Green (Jimmy) of Fayetteville, NC, Mary Stevenson of Lawrencevill, NJ, Annette Buie of Smithfield, NC, Sylvia Buie of Queens, NY, Hazel Godwin of Selma, NC, Vernice Godwin of Selma, NC, and Rolinda Godwin of Selma, NC; six uncles, David Buie (Joyce M.) of Sumter, SC, Jeff Buie (Joyce R.) of Smithfield, NC, King Godwin (Eva) of Selma, NC, Wallace Godwin of Selma, NC, Billy Godwin (Martha) of Selma, NC, and Robert Godwin of Selma, NC; Mario did not have children of his own, but he did have "chirren" as he called them, Dutches, Chanel, Zena, and Sasha; one niece, Anaya Richardson of Middlesex, NC; one nephew, Cameron Godwin of Middlesex, NC; his village, Regina Godwin, Tamica Blackwell, Margretcher King, Mary Frances Mitchner, Scottie and Barbara McClain, Keama Eason, and Mary Gulley; four special little cousins, Jaylea, Kentrell, Asia, and Belle; his abundance of fish which he loved so dearly; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
