Mary Ann Sims Crawford, fondly known as Anne Sims
Crawford, was born on October 6, 1943, in Pine Level, North Carolina.
She was the older of two children, born to the late Mittie Lee Davis Sims
and Turner Lee Sims. She went home to be with the Lord on June 20,
2017.
Ann (as most people called her) attended elementary school in
Princeton, North Carolina, and graduated from Richard Berry High
School in 1961. She continued her education at Barnes Business School
in Goldsboro, North Carolina, earning an Associate Degree in Business.
After graduation she worked as a secretary at Fuquay Varina Elementary
School. She then became secretary at Johnston County Training School
for several years. Ann later worked as a teller at First Citizens Bank for
32 years, before retiring. She also worked as a teacher assistant for
several years before encountering health issues.
At an early age, she became a member of Giles Chapel Free Will
Baptist and later became a member of Mt. Sinai. She loved music and
played the keyboard for several churches in the community. She loved
to play and sing and would gladly assist when asked. Even after her
illness she would still play some Sundays when she could.
Ann was very friendly and loved people. She dearly loved
children and they held a special place in her heart. She was an active
member of the Class of 1961 until the last two years.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts,
and uncles. She leaves to cherish her memory: her brother, William
"Bobby" Sims (Linda) of Greensboro, NC; two nieces, Zaylister
"Raquel" Browning (Edward, Jr.) of McLeansville, NC and Shena
Denise Sterling (Johnny) of Norcross, Georgia; the loves of her life: one
great-niece, Brianna Browning, of McLeansville, NC; two great-nephews,
Jalen Browning of McLeansville, NC and Ethan Sterling of Norcross,
Georgia; her god-sister, Yolanda Coleman and Mary Windley, her
play-sister, both of Smithfield, NC; and a host of cousins and friends.
