Michelle Carol Mayo

Michelle Carol Mayo, beloved daughter of Ann Mayo, was
welcomed into the world on November 28, 1968. She was called home
on Wednesday February 7, 2018. Michelle was 49 years old and the
namesake of her favorite aunt, Carolyn J. Barnwell of Fayetteville, NC.
Michelle was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She grew up next door to
her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Kenny Montgomery.
Michelle was known for her keen sense of humor, practical
jokes, red lipstick, and love of family. Michelle was known for bringing
home strays, be it animals or people, from an early age. Michelle had a
heart big enough to hold everyone, and her pride and joy was her family.
Michelle loved family dinners and lived by the philosophy that there was
always room for one more person at the table.
Michelle always told you what she thought, whether you wanted
to hear it or not. Michelle could make you laugh about anything. Truly
her mother's daughter, Michelle earned the nickname of "Mama" by
collecting children wherever she went. She would be the first to counsel
you on financial responsibility and where the best bargains could be
found. A better and truer friend you could not find.
In 2007, Michelle's niece, Tasha ran into Kenny at a family
function and obtained his phone number for her aunt. Michelle decided
that her childhood sweetheart needed to learn how to use text messaging,
and then she decided that he was going to marry her. The couple
married in 2009, to the surprise of absolutely no one. Her daughter and
best friend, Denise, stood by her side. Michelle would be the first to tell
you that was the happiest day of her life, and that she waited her whole
life to marry a man as good as Kenny.
The children who played house together on Swain Street and ran
through the creek at Chavis Park created a beautiful life together, loving
one another fiercely. In the summer of 2016, Kenny, proving once again
that there was nothing he would not do for his beloved, made Michelle's
d r e am o f a h o u s e i n t h e c o u n t r y h a p p e n .
