God called Mildred home to Glory on Friday, April 8, 2022, with her
children and grandchildren by her side.
Mildred Marie Bell Sanders was born in the township of Benson, North
Carolina to the late Arthur and Jennie Virginia Bell on June 1, 1927. Four
siblings have preceded her in death.
Mildred attended Benson Elementary School and is a 1945 salutatorian
graduate of Johnston Central High School in Smithfield, NC. She had
several educational extension courses in foodservice with NC A&T
College, Greensboro; Wayne Technical College, Goldsboro; Wilson
Community College, Wilson and Johnston Community College, Smithfield.
She has worked for several years in the foodservice business across Johnston
County: Selma High School; Forest High School, Four Oaks; South
Campus, Smithfield; Cooper Junior High School, Clayton; R.B. Harrison
Junior High School, Selma; Smithfield-Selma Senior High School,
Smithfield; Johnston-Lee Community Action, Smithfield and 13 Summers
for Mary Atkinson Girl Scout Camp, Selma. She culminated her career
from the Johnston County Food Service Department after 26 years of
service.
Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and up until her hip surgery, was
an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, NC. She
was a Lifetime Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lily of the Valley
Chapter #53 of Selma.
Mildred was married to the late Cleophus Sanders. To this union, five
daughters were born. She is preceded in death by three of her daughters:
Marie Sanders, Mildred Faye Mitchener and Brenda Kaye Murray, and
stepson PJ Sanders.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son London Bell of Durham,
NC; two daughters: Stephanie Rhue and Rubbie Sanders of Selma, NC.
one brother Johnny Williams of Benson, NC; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
