Millard Ivey Smith was born to the late James Lester and Johnnie Belle High Smith on April 4, 1948, in
Johnston County. He departed his life on May 20, 2023 at Pruitt Health of Raleigh.
Millard Ivey grew up in Johnston County. He was a proud member of White Rock AME Church in
Micro, North Carolina. He was a 1966 graduate of Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, North
Carolina. He was employed by Sylvania in Smithfield, before he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland and
later to Englewood, New Jersey. While in Englewood, he was employed as a reliable school bus driver
for the city. After his retirement, he returned to Johnston County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers,
James Floyd Smith and Benjamin Harris Smith.
Millard Ivey leaves to celebrate his life three children of the heart, Summer and Isis Mullins, Englewood,
New Jersey; and Lindsey Brown, Boston, Massachusetts. His siblings: Five sisters, Hettie Revell, Selma;
Wilma Gainey, Durham; Shirley Sherard of Selma; Paulette Smith Bryant, Micro; and Edna (Dan) Blue,
Raleigh. Six brothers, John Norvell Smith, Durham; Raymond (Hannah) Smith, Durham; Turner (Ilene)
Smith, Raleigh; Malcolm (Gwen) Smith, Coca, Florida; Byron (Laurie) Smith, Micro; and Christopher
Bernard (Yvonne) Smith, Raleigh. One aunt, Dorothy Jean High, Washington, D. C.; several nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends. Fondly.
Through his legacy that lives on through his loved ones he will always be remembered fondly
