Mr. Nelson Kerry Rodgers was born on January 26, 1961, the oldest of three children to Mr. Jarvis Samuel Rodgers and Glenda Haley Rodgers in Smithfield, North Carolina. Nelson graduated from Smithfield-Selma Senior High School and attended Johnson C. Smith University, where he studied Early Childhood Development. After his time in Charlotte, Nelson worked for Johnston County Public School System.
Nelson, a "free spirit," who never met a stranger, enjoyed cooking for entertaining his family and friends. Nelson was always one to lend a helping hand to a friend in need and jump in when needed in any time of crisis and celebration. The "Life of the Party,"his infectious smile was contagious and his warm energy captured a room. Throughout his life, Nelson worked various jobs in childcare and the service industry but his most important role was that of Son, Brother, Uncle. Nelson loved his mother dearly and cherished the relationships he had with his siblings, nieces and nephews.
Nelson spent much of his adult life in Durham, NC and Atlanta, GA, where he lived his final days. He is preceded in death by his father, Jarvis Samuel Rodgers; his brother, Deshoun Rodgers; his grandparents, Joseph and Pearl Haley and Gladys Rodgers. Nelson is survived by his mother, Glenda Rodgers of Durham, NC; sister, Letitia "Tot" Williams (Tyrone) of Four Oaks, sister, Jackie Lassiter (Harold) of Four Oaks, NC; special nieces and nephews, Natalie Sanders of Smithfield, NC, Jasmine Holder and Jarvis Rodgers of Durham, NC, Cassandra "Sandy" Rodgers McFadden (Khalil) of Durham, NC, Sade Rodgers Lyons (Demarcus) of Durham, NC, Dalton Williams of Four Oaks, NC, Danielle Rodgers and Gabriella Rodgers of Los Angeles, CA, Harold "Packy Wack" Lassiter (Lenora) of Four Oaks, NC, and great nieces and nephews, NaQuan Sanders, Destiny Williams, Gregory and Gemeia Obey of Smithfield, NC, Caden and Kylen McFadden of Durham, NC, Makenzie, Junior and Jordan Rodgers of Durham, NC, Cameron Waters of Durham, NC and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Nelson is also survived by a host of close friends who were like family and a few special friends including Sam, Darren, and Lyman.
