Rachel Mae Barnes, daughter of the late Johnnie and Willie Mae Barnes
entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Wake Med Hospital. She
was born February 28, 1962, into a loving family that welcomed her as she
was the youngest child. Her siblings affectionately called her “Tudor” and
enjoyed their tight-knit sibling bond. Rachel loved people, especially her
family. She would always end a conversation with her family and friends
saying, “I Love You”.
Rachel graduated from Clayton High School, Clayton, NC and went on to earn
an associate degree in Applied Science from Raleigh School of Data
Processing. She later attended Johnston Community College where she
earned her Certified Nursing Assistant II certification. She worked several
years as a CNA in the public and private sectors.
Rachel was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Christian Church. She was a
member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, and the Praise Team. She also
served in the kitchen ministry and Christian education doing outreach in the
community.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Roger Barnes of the home; one
grandson, Javion Barnes of Clayton, NC; five brothers, Alonzo Barnes
(Jeanette) of Cary, NC, Johnny Michael Barnes (Shirley) of Garner, NC,
Lester Barnes of Clayton, NC, Donald Barnes (Janice) of Garner, NC, and
Willie Lee Hinton of Pueblo, Colorado; three sisters, Linda Sanders of Clayton,
NC, Shelia Barnes of Raleigh, NC, and Margaret Bussey of Raleigh, NC.
Rachel also leaves behind one uncle, two aunts, many godsons and
goddaughters, a very special friend, Eric Harris, and a host of relatives and
friends
