Reginald A. Ennis was born on October 7, 1947 to the late Betty Elizabeth Bethel Ennis and the late Cornell Ennis. Reginald passed away on March 23, 2018 at Barbour Court Nursing Home in Smithfield, NC.
Reginald graduated from high school in Washington, DC. Soon after, he began work for the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC. Reginald worked there for 36 years as a Supervisor with the Department of Labor.
Reginald moved to NC to fulfill his lifelong dream of retiring and living in Smithfield, where he had spent so much of his childhood.
Reginald was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist and attended regularly until his he became ill. He was the brother who would regularly bring the sweet tea for every church fellowship.
Reginald had an extraordinary work ethic; proven by his 36 years of employment. Reginald truly enjoyed his well-deserved retire- ment. His favorite past times were sitting on his front porch, wav- ing, and welcoming anyone who took the time to come over to sit awhile, and frequently eating at his favorite spot, Robin's Nest.
Reginald and Martishue met when they were childhood friends. They soon became loyal companions and husband and wife for over 40 years. You could rarely say one name without saying the other.
Reginald leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Marcus O'Neal of Fort Washington, MD; granddaughter, Montoya O'Neal of College Park, MD; aunt, Carolyn Ennis of Smithfield, NC; sisters- in-law, Fannie Greene of Selma, NC, Lillian Moore of Selma, NC; and Delia Patterson of Forrestville, MD. brothers-in-law, John Albert Patterson of Forrestville, MD, and Phil Moore of Selma, NC; nephew, Darryl Ennis of Washington, DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives, and friends.
"Letter To My Pops"
Today a great man is laid to rest,
My Pop's Reginald Ennis.
For this day to come, I never knew that it would be this hard to say "Goodbye". I would like to thank you for showing me that being silent is not a weakness, but, it is something that has strength, courage, and love for others. After so many years, it is now time for you to rest alongside your wife, my mother Martishue Ennis. Montoya and I will be forever grateful with how much love you have given us
that will last a lifetime.
Rest forever in peace & I will forever love you,
Your Son, Marcus & Granddaughter, Montoya
