Mrs. Sylvia Holder (Neal) Barnes, was born on May 18, 1938 in O'Neal Township, in Johnston County, NC, to the late Mrs. Louzannie Holder and the late Mr. Minger Holder. Sylvia graduated from Richard B. Harrison. Sylvia would go on to work for the Wake County School System until her retirement. Sylvia had a passion for cooking and she cooked many years for the people she loved in her community. Sylvia served as a loving caretaker for family and friends within her community.
Sylvia was married to Timothy A. Neal, who preceded her in death. From this union, five children were born: Timothy A. Neal Jr. (2008) and Alvin E. Neal (2010), both whom preceded her in death. Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories: Antonio Neal (Brenda) of Four Oaks, NC, Teresa Hinton (Albert) of Fayetteville, NC and Regina Benjamin (Vernal) of Boynton, Florida. Sylvia was also preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers: Gayzell Stancil, Eula Ackles, Elizabeth Holder, Addie Holder. Roosevelt Williams, Joseph Holder, Lonnie Holder, Ben Holder, James Holder and Sylvester Holder, Sr.
Along with her children, Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory: Maezell Johnson (Smithfield, NC), Laura Burgess (Washington, DC), Ransom Holder (Smithfield, NC), Nancy Holder (Selma, NC), Stella Dunn (Wendell, NC), Faye Kenan (Middlesex, NC), Edna Pace (Highpoint, NC), Patricia Brockington (Conyers, GA) and Kenneth Neal (Middlesex, NC); special children: Doris Foster, Mertie Tay- lor, Alice Ford, Shehdan Mason, Tyrone Richardson, Kenneth Richardson, Toney Richardson and Kevin Richardson; special daughters: Brenda Williams, Jeanette Neal, Denise Neal, Felecia McGee, Beverly O'Neal, and Lora Tassin; special sons: Clifton Holder and Anthony Toler; special sister: Louise Scarboro (Roosevelt); special friends: Katie Scarboro, Janice Pearce and Patricia Richardson. 34 grandchildren, 39 great- grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
